When I was looking to grab my Meteor there was a lot of negativity (and sometimes still is) about what small capacity bikes can actually achieve.

A rough route.

The route sees the A591 curve majestically past Windermere, Rydal water, Grasmere and then over the gentle mountain pass towards Thirlmere reservoir and then down into the valley of Derwent water and the town of Keswick. There was also cheese on offer!

Just being able to accomplish this didn’t completely answer my burning desire on the Meteor’s true capability, and so, not long out of Grasmere as the incline began I decided to make a move and attempt the overtake. I’m not saying this was the best location, but it was the best test as far as his ability to manage a sloping road seemed to be concerned.

Will it work?

Well, come on folks! It’s not like I’m riding a BSA Goldstar 6 is it? As you can see it wasn’t the smoothest or quickest overtake I’ve ever done, but it proves it was possible to do so.

Another activity well and truly ticked off when it comes to the capability of that 350 cc engine.

  2. I’ve seen far too many people criticising sub 800cc bikes as too slow. Its madness, I love riding my friends YS125 every now and then. Nowhere near as fast, but loads of fun!

    1. Yeah it’s just a bit sad really, I had a convo with a chap in Windermere like that.

      Him: “Nice bike, come far?”
      Me: “Only Norfolk.”
      Him: “NORFOLK!!! On that?????
      Me: “Yeah, it’s only about 250 miles….”
      Him: *Totally shocked*
