Spending a good amount of time in my formulation years in the North East, the ownership of any form of coat or jacket had originally ranked only slightly higher than owning an umbrella (Ella). However, one of the strange afflictions which seems to have struck me since Motorcycle ownership is the unnatural attraction to jackets.

The strange nesting urge to have multiple jacket styles and options despite many of them overlapping in their primary usage is not necessarily contained to a single season either, because having multiple styles of vented jacket (just in case obviously) would be a great plan.

Bela Stark – ironically the medium has been out of stock since my birth…

Without airing my dirty laundry in public, there are a huge number of key financial purchases I really should be making at this moment in time, things like a bed and a rice cooker…. But no, I’m gazing at motorcycle jackets I neither need, nor can afford.

This is also available with white stripes if you want to emulate the 1980 Olympic games.

I don’t seem to be alone though, a number of conversations over on BlueSky later, and it appears this seems to be a rather common phenomenon. So why are we compelled to begin hoarding jackets????

  1. In my heyday of riding, I had more than half a dozen jackets – way more. Some were for style, some were for comfort, some were – well – on sale. Once I moved to ATGATT, they closet got slimmer with gear that sufficed for all weather. When my husband and I did all of Rt 66 in the US back in 2013, he was a convert as well. Mesh pants with bike shorts underneath and a jacket with zip-off panels were perfect for hot weather while zip on panels for the pants for rain and a zip-in quilted liner for both jacket and pants. Not the most stylish, hard to beat a good leather jacket, but oh so functional.

    1. That’s the problem with leather jackets isn’t it? They just look so damn good!
