So we’re chugging along on the coast road toward Cromer the other week, we are just entering the 30mph second when the standard squid appears and immediately passes us going well over the limit. You can probably picture the rider in question (but if you can’t) featuring the Alpinestars hoodie, no gloves, Moto jeans, expensive helmet, generic race bike.
Forget the 2 second rule, this guy is a nano second from the rear bumper of the car in front to the point that if so much as a rogue squirrel makes a run for it, the car driver is going to receive an impromptu rectal examination.
After this manoeuvre they transitioned back to screaming away towards the town centre, where we promptly caught up with the bike in question, not just because of their poor urban riding skills, but the issue of traffic lights, other motorists and pedestrians who have no fear of death. Forget the notion of meeting the reaper half way, this rider literally rocked up to his gaffe, revved their race bike a few times, popped a wheelie and knocked over a few of his plant plots on his front porch.
If the worst thing had happened here, I’ll be honest I’d be testifying against the rider in court. I’m not going to indulge in puerile factionalism for someone who is going to make us all look bad, especially when we already know how the average car driver views us, and how the media love to portray us all as ‘Hells Angels – Evil Knievel’ chapter (does such a thing exist?), and also then deliberately put themselves in a situation where things could go badly for a variety of road users in any potential encounter.
I’m not even going to touch on the lack of basic gear here, I’m sure that the Ruroc helmet looked really cool online.
Actions have consequences, and you cannot then be bitching all over social media about “dem cagers” if you lack basic road craft. Don’t expect my sympathy either….
